Hey, if you usually practice your accordion at "home alone," you might be surprised at how many jams there are around your town for you to join in on. Where a variety of instruments are accepted, you get a chance to make new friends and even get a little guidance or shoptalk from musicians who are used to playing with others. Perhaps you've already learned of some places open to you bringing your own instrument and playing along. A few spots my accordion and I have visited in my exploration: On the first Saturday of each month from 6 to 9:30 PM, St. Augustine of Canterbury Episcopal Church hosts the Oklahoma City Traditional Music Association, which offers several jam and workshop rooms, each with a different genre in mind. Moore First Baptist Church jams Thursdays from 5:30 to 8 PM. Mustang Community Center had three slots each week for music players when I visited there. For those age 50 and up, Will Rogers Senior Center jams on Tuesdays and Fridays at noon. The Healthy Living Center on Rockwell near NW 115th boasts an active music contingent. Getting to know a few people at these jams makes you privy to additional sessions, some even in private homes. A thriving community of music aspirants are eager to share their findings with you, just as you no doubt mention the lyrical opportunities provided by Oklahoma Accordion Club to people you run into!
Mark those calendars! — Dick Albreski

plus other chances to play for your old and new friends. Consider this something to do in 2025. If you are not familiar with the program, drop me a note and I will get you started. There is a new Digital Accordion. KORG, who has manufactured many digital keyboards has released its first digital accordion. This instrument has a universe of sounds, instrumentation, and performance capabilities. Those in the know of digital accordions find this accordion to be very competitive. You can see a brief demo of the accordion by checking the KORG website. Kevin Solecki is now a dealer for this instrument. If you check it out, I'd would be curious on your thoughts. Keep me posted. As future events happen, hopefully we'll see them in advance, so you can make plans to attend. Keep checkin' this article! WHY NOT plan on attending the next Oklahoma Accordion Club meeting at the Messiah Lutheran Church located at Portland and Northwest Expressway on November 10th at 3:30 PM. You can bring a friend and your accordion as well. This is our time to shine!!!! What other instrument can do all that an accordion can do with Christmas music? I will be there to share some Christmas music with you and trust you will do the same for me. No, I didn't forget Thanksgiving music but really, I don't think there is a bunch. Surprise us if you can. NEXT BIG EVENT…At the December 8 OAC meeting we will again feature our Youth and hopefully raise money for them to attend the National Accordion Convention in March 2025. The youth will perform plus there will be a silent auction where we ask the members and guests to bring items that can be auctioned off. In addition, we ask that members and friends bring treats to share. Without your support this event cannot happen. Please plan on helping with this event. The students will thank you. Thank you. START PLANNING: I have a great plan for you. Next March 13th to the 15th in Lewisville TX, the National Accordion Association will hold its annual Convention at the Hilton Garden Inn.
