Sunday, December 11, 2011
There were fourteen members and three guests present.
Lois Roth OAC Minutes November 13, 2011 Meeting • liver Delaney called the meeting to order. • One guest, Lynda Moore, has an accordion for sale. She was referred to Dick Albreski for assistance. • Oliver read a paragraph from the Oklahoman Parade: Yo-Yo Ma's new hobby is the accordion! • Our Christmas meeting will be Sunday, December 4, at our usual place. It will start at 3:00 pm instead of 3:30 pm. The menu is still being planned -- if a full meal is decided upon, each member will be asked to bring a side dish. • Donations of winter hats, scarves, gloves, and socks will be collected at the meeting and given to a charity. Items should be new or nearly new. • Election of club officers for 2012 will take place soon. • Sil Lopez led us in a round of applause to thank Oliver for the October 16 picnic. • Members were asked to think about our 2012 agenda, and about what they want from the Club. Oliver would like to have a major function with the dual purpose of creating interest in the accordion and raising money. Members who have any new ideas for OAC are asked to contact Oliver Delaney or Phil Scibelli. • Several members gave brief sketches of their accordion playing history: - Janet Haskin is a pianist, and started playing accordion when she received her mother's accordion. - Margaret Oldham began taking lessons when she was in fourth grade. - Phil Scibelli took lessons as a child, and started playing again two years ago. - Anne Lopez was inspired to learn accordion after seeing Dick Contino perform at a theater in Cleveland, Ohio. - Renato began taking lessons at age 65. He was inspired by the Lawrence Welk show. - Oliver gave Micaiah Elliott his beginner lessons. • Members were reminded that jam books are available from Lois Roth or Diana Richard. • Then we had music! - Anne Lopez played "Bewitched, " "How Are Things in Glocca Morra," and "Lost Hope" (a Spanish waltz). - Janet Haskin performed "Carol of The Bells." - Karen West, Janet, and Lois played "Come Back To Sorrento" and "Mattinata." • A lively jam session followed the meeting. The theme for the December 4 meeting is Christmas!
