There were 20 members and four guests present.
!! August 2012! The Oklahoma Squeezins OAC Meeting July 8, 2012 ick Albreski called the meeting to order. • Several members were wearing patriotic costumes for the contest. Judges for this event were Frances Engle, Bob Mansfield, and Dan Orza. • The meeting began with MUSIC! −Rebecca Smith played two solos: "The Mickey Mouse Club Song" and "Bluebird Waltz." −Maddie Smith performed "Bella Notte" and "Hooray For Love." −Dick introduced guests Carlotta and Jerry Alustad. They brought an accordion that's for sale. Club members were invited to try it out. −The music continued with Job Elliott performing "Trattoria el Centro." −Job and Dick played "Happy Oberek." −Then Job treated us to a patriotic medley. −Maggie Abel was next. She dedicated her first song to her husband Steve Scott: "Drink to Me Only with Thine Eyes." Her patriotic contribution was "The Marines' Hymn." −Dick performed "Ambiance Musettienne." He reminded us that this beautiful piece is the one that a soldier in Afghanistan requested and that the Club found and sent to him. −Bob played and sang "God Bless America." He also performed "Hora and Bulgar." −Then Dick handed out song sheets for a patriotic sing-along. We all enjoyed singing these great songs: "The Star-Spangled Banner," "You're a Grand Old Flag," and many others. Bob accompanied us on his accordion. Thank you, Bob! −The judges announced that Magdalena Brantley was the winner of the costume contest. Her prize was a gift certificate to a restaurant. −Dan Orza and Lois Roth concluded the meeting with "The Battle Hymn of the Republic," "America" ("My Country Tis of Thee"), and "America the Beautiful." • A fun jam session followed the meeting. Our next meeting is scheduled for Sunday, August 12. There's no special theme - hot-weather songs might be appropriate! Please bring your jam books and we'll play together after the meeting.
