The Oklahoma Squeezins June 9, 2013 Minutes of OAC Monthly Meeting • Nineteen members attended. ick Albreski opened the meeting with a discussion of the upcoming club concert to be held at Norman Depot on August 11: −The event should last around two hours, and have a 15-minute intermission −A candy and chocolate buffet is expected, compliments of Roland −Performers are encouraged to choose "peppy" numbers −Performers should turn their concert song titles in to Dick −Performers are encouraged to memorize their song, and have it learned "very tight" −Dan Orza said that the Accordionaires band members would wear black and white −The July meeting will include, in Dick's words, an "undressed rehearsal" for the August event. • Tom Phillips of Holdenville, OK joined the club during the meeting. • Member T.Z. Wright attended today. It was pointed out that he has new twin grandchildren. • The Accordionaires Band (Director Dan Orza along with Lois Roth, Karen West, John Buchanan, and Maggie Abel) performed songs including: − “June Is Busting Out All Over” − “Somewhere My Love” • Club members performed a variety of songs: Fran Gesinski: − “The Blue Danube” − “Rain, Rain Polka” • Anne Lopez played a solo: Torero. • Anne Lopez on accordion and Barbara Duer on banjo played together: − “Red River Valley” − “All of Me” − “Alley Cat” − “Yessir, That's My Baby” • Barbara Duer played two ragtime solos on her accordion: − “Accordion Rag” − “Calliope Rag” • T.Z. Page 5 • Tom Phillips played “Join the Fun or Lightly Row.” • Dick Albreski and John Buchanan played “Accordion Jump.” • Dick suggested enhancing a simple song with variations such as octaves, arpeggios, doubles, bellow shakes, and counter basses. He demonstrated these using “Just Because,” “'’S Wonderful,” and “Tico Tico.” • Bob Mansfield played “Sophisticated Lady” from the Duke Ellington book.
