OAC Minutes November 9, 2014 Meeting ! arbara Duer called the meeting to order. • Barbara made the following announcements: − There will be a "Sweets Exchange" at the December 14 meeting. Members are asked to bring cookies or other Christmas treats to share. The Club will supply the drinks. − We are collecting winter accessories for the needy. Please bring new or gently used hats, scarves, gloves, socks, etc. to the December meeting. We do this every year, and the items are greatly appreciated. • We are considering a larger venue for the next August concert. We have outgrown The Depot, and don't like to turn people away for lack of seating. One strong possibility is the Czech Hall. • Milo Shedeck has been club treasurer for two years. Nominations are open for a new treasurer. • It is membership renewal time. Please pay your dues to Milo. • Tobin Garrison, a guest, was introduced. He is an upright bass player, and performs traditional jazz music. He and Bob Mansfield are arranging to play gigs and other events together. • Dick Albreski said that seven of our young members plan on attending the NAA Convention next March. There will be a raffle held at the December meeting to aid the Youth Group with expenses. Members are asked to bring items for the raffle. • There were two accordions on display, and were for sale by the Goodmans. • The Club presented a birthday card to George Secor, and sang "Happy Birthday" to George and to all the November birthday celebrators. • Then it was music time. Bob opened the program with the "Mexican La Malagueña." • Then, Bob, Barbara, and Karen West performed "Moments Musiceaux," with Barbara playing free bass accordion. They followed with "A Joyous Acclamation," and concluded with "España Cañi," accompanied by Magdalena Brantley playing the maracas. • Bob and George played the "Clarinet Polka." • George performed two selections on the free bass: "Sonata in D major" by Haydn, and "Paper Moon." • Bob played Bach's "Air On G String" on the freebass accordion. • Frankie Martinez, playing his Ruby Queen red button accordion, along with his band, performed "Hey Baby" ("Que Pasò"), and a Tex-Mex song entitled "Half An Orange." • Myke Dixon and Dick played the "Theme From Emily," followed by a waltz. • Wayne Turgeon played "Vive La Compagnie." Then, in honor of Veterans Day, Wayne, Myke, and Tom Phillips played "The Caissons Go Rolling Along," and Tom played "The Marines' Hymn." • Dick performed "Le Tango du Bol Musette," and two other lovely French pieces. • Bob and Dick demonstrated the difference between wet and dry sounds of the accordion. • T. Z. Wright played and sang "He'll Have To Go," "Whiskey for Breakfast," and "Chameleon." • Barbara Duer performed three selections, including "Lanerydsschottis" and "Rhubarb Schottische." • George played "Rhubarb Schottische" on his small free-bass accordion (fifteen basses). He said that he will present a workshop on free-bass at the March NAA Convention. Also, he and Bob will perform free-bass duets. • George has several small free-bass accordions for sale. ! Please join us on December 14 for our annual Christmas meeting. There will be beautiful music, delicious sweet treats, and a holiday gift raffle. !
