October 2015 The Oklahoma Squeezins Oklahoma Accordion Club Septemberfest Meeting September 13, 2015 Club arbara Duer opened the Oktoberfest-themed meeting. • A new member from Hawaii, Larry Gering, was introduced. • Clifford Weems is a photographer who discovered the Club through a news article. He shot pictures at the Club's August 9 Czech Hall concert, and set up a tripod to document today's event. • Past ick Albreski announced a new Lifetime Member, Ophelia Woody. • Historian Karen West reported on the successful advertising campaign that netted a full house with standing room only for the August concert. Notices were posted through a number of newspapers, radio and TV stations, and billboards -- thanks to Karen, Dan, Barbara, and many others. • The Accordionaires (director Dan Orza, Lois Roth, Barbara Duer, Karen West, and Maggie Abel) played "Café Mozart" ("Stammcafe"), "Wooden Heart," and "Schutzenliesel." • While members ate German fare (hot dogs, brats, sauerkraut, German potatoes, red cabbage, pie, and more) prepared by Barbara, Dan, and other volunteers, Dick played a medley of tunes, including Czech dances, "El Soyka Polka," "Señorita Polka," and "Twilight Time." • John Buchanan and Dick entertained with "Annie in the Cabbage Patch," "The Flying Dutchman," a schottische, the "Hopscotch Polka," "Seven-Step Polka," and "Cruising Down the River." • Janet Haskin and Bob Mansfield played a Brahms waltz and "Etude No. 1" (by Bob's student). Janet then performed "Die Fliedermaus" by Strauss. • While Bob played a German song, he accompanied himself with his beautiful voice! • Colleen Rettman offered "Beer Barrel Polka" and "Kate Martin's Waltz." • The Lois Roth/Anne Lopez duo presented the "Isabella Waltz" and "Du Kannst Nicht Treu Sein" ("You Can't Be True, Dear"). • New member Larry was a crowd-pleaser with his musical/humorous medley, including "Julida/Zulidy Polka" and "Lady of Spain." • The freebase Moschino accordion of Bob Mansfield brought forth a lively Polish dance, "Oberek." At meeting's end, the exit of empty crockpots, food warmers, and storage containers witnessed the end of a beautiful feast and celebration. • Maggie Abel, secretary September Meeting Maggie Abel
