Page 4 June 2016 The Oklahoma Squeezins Oklahoma Accordion Club May 8, 2016 Meeting arbara Duer called the Mother’s Day meeting to order with eight members and nine guests. • Barbara reminded the group that the Board has been discussing raising the OAC membership dues to $20 per member annually, with $10 for an additional family member. A vote will be taken on the proposed dues hike at the June Club meeting. • Before the meeting, a visitor asked about using a professional accordionist from the Club to play music from “Fiddler on the Roof” in an orchestral setting. • Historian Karen West reported that the Daily Oklahoman has indicated it will again write a story about the Club’s annual concert this August. • Karen has created a spreadsheet of available duty slots to be filled by volunteers in publicizing and preparing for the concert. Help needed includes: delivering concert flyers, helping in the parking lot, setting up chairs inside, greeting at the door, and stage manager. We are considering having the concert videotaped. Diana Richard volunteered to assist with group emails for the concert. Several members signed up for specific duties on the list. • Karen said member Larry Gering reports he is organizing a musical flash mob. • Barbara presented Phyllis Scott her new member badge. Phyllis is the mother of member Steven Scott. • Barbara played the “Expectation Waltz,” a Russian waltz in E minor; the “Tennessee Waltz” in C; the “Boum Musette Waltz;” “Hans Spielt Musette,” and “Junivalsen” (the June Waltz). • Toni Spaulding played “In the Garden,” “Fascination,” and “Santa Lucia.” Toni also plays the vibraharp, aka vibraphone. • The Accordionaires (Lois Roth, Karen West, and Maggie Abel) along with Barbara and Steven, played “I Want a Girl,” “Tiptoe through the Tulips,” and “While Strolling Through the Park.” • Maggie Abel OAC Secretary May Meeting Maggie Abel Advertisement Please keep Dick Albreski in your thoughts and prayers. He is in the hospital for a short time so he can become the first bionic accordionist.
