Page 4 July 2017 The Oklahoma Squeezins June Meeting Oklahoma Accordion Club June 11, 2017 Meeting Before the meeting, Past ick Albreski conducted a 2:00 band practice for the Music Makers, including two numbers for the August concert, “La Sorella” and “Gypsy Knights.” • At 3:30, arbara Duer welcomed 15 members and two guests to the meeting. She read aloud the order of performers for the August concert. • Music began with a sing-along by the trio of Barbara (on banjo), Lois Roth, and Anne Lopez. The audience joined in as they played “You Are My Sunshine,” “Home On The Range,” and “When the Saints Go Marchin' In.” • Afterward, Lois and Anne played accordion tunes “Ashokan Farewell” and “Chiapanecas” (“Mexican Hat Dance”). • Jim Woolly passed out tambourines and other percussion instruments, which Anne had brought, so onlookers could accompany a gospel jam group consisting of Jim, Barbara, Lois, Club Historian Karen West, Past President Dick Albreski, and Mike Clark. Toni Paulding will play her vibraphone in this number at the concert. The group played “I’ll Fly Away,” “When the Roll Is Called Up Yonder,” and “I’ve Got a Home in Gloryland.” • Toni and Dick played “Sharpshooters March,” a song Toni will play as a solo during the August concert. • Dick demonstrated what accordion bass notes can do, using the songs “I Hear The Sound Of Music,” and the French tune “Musette Paradise.” • Lois, Barbara, and Karen played Chopin’s “Fantasie Impromptu” (“I’m Always Chasing Rainbows”), Shostakovich’s “Waltz #2,” and “New York, New York.” • Dick and Wayne Turgeon played “Que Sera, Sera” (“Whatever Will Be, Will Be”). • Dick played the “Just Because” polka, dedicating it to Anne’s guest, her mother Cassi Radicelli. • Karen played “Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me.” Barbara reminded participants to be ready to rehearse their concert selections at the July meeting. • Maggie Abel Maggie Abel Advertisements
