July Meeting Oklahoma Accordion Club July 9, 2017 Meeting arbara Duer welcomed • Historian Karen West introduced her guests, Edwina and Jason Johnston. • Barbara recited the list of concert musicians to show the proposed order of play on August 13. On certain numbers, accordionists may be accompanied by: Toni Paulding on vibraphone, Barbara on banjo, Mike Clark on bass guitar, and T. Z. Wright on guitar. • Past ick Albreski directed the Oklahoma Accordion Club Band (aka The Music Makers) including Barbara, Toni, Beth Henson, Lois Roth, Karen West, and Maggie Abel. Songs included "La Sorella," "Gypsy Nights," "Put Another Nickel In," "Play A Simple Melody," "I'll Fly Away," "Do Lord," and "When the Roll is Called Up Yonder." • Vice President Tom Phillips played old-time favorite "Golden Slippers." • Dick played interesting jazz variations on "The Lady Is A Tramp." • A sing-along by trio Barbara, Lois, and Anne Lopez included "You Are My Sunshine," "Home on the Range," and "The Saints Go Marching In." • Lois and Anne, as a duo, performed "Blue Skirt Waltz" and "Rain Rain Polka." • Bob Mansfield played his small free bass. It has 15 buttons and weighs approximately 12 pounds. We heard two traditional Jewish songs, "Frailach," a dance; and "Adon Odo" in E minor. Out-of-towners George Secor and Lou LeBrun will accompany Bob at the concert. • T. Z. Wright played three Irish songs with his 48-button Guiletti: "Accordion Crimes," "Morrison's Jig," and "The Scotsman" (aka "I See You've Won First Prize"). • Toni Paulding, with her gorgeous vibraphone, which she plays each Saturday at her church, accompanied Lois and Barbara on hymns, "In The Garden," "Whispering Hope," and "Amazing Grace." • Maggie Abel Maggie Abel Advertisement
