Page 4 April 2019 The Oklahoma Squeezins OAC Meeting Minutes March 17, 2019 Our March meeting commenced with the officers meeting at 2:35 pm. Jamming started at 3:00 pm, with Maggie Abel, Lois Roth, Karen West, Barb Mahar, Toni Paulding, and Barbara Duer. aggie opened the members’ meeting at 3:35 pm, with 16 members and one guest present. The Jammers played: * “That's an Irish Lullaby” * “When Irish Eyes Are Smiling” * “The Wearing of the Green” Maggie shared four short videos from the 32nd Annual National Accordion Association Convention that was held last week in Dallas. The videos, which we all thoroughly enjoyed, were projected onto the meeting room wall. We were able to see a great performance of Barbara Duer and Lou LeBrun playing: * “Ilta Budabatessa” Dick Albreski and Greg Klugiewicz outdid themselves playing: * “Beer Barrel Polka” The Fun Band, led by Dick Albreski, did a great job playing: * “That's Amoré” Lastly, we got to see Job Elliot doing a professional job on his rendition of: * “The Star Spangled Banner” We so enjoyed the video that we asked Maggie to do more video presentations at future meetings. Anne Lopez suggested we see presentations of famous accordion players like Dick Contino, Charles Magnante, etc. Anne and Lois had everyone singing as they played: * “The Band Played On” * “When the Saints Go Marching In” Anne then soloed with the tango: * “La Rosita” Ron Shearon brought guest Barbara Yuill, who surprised everyone by bringing her accordion and playing: * “I Love To Dance” Thanks, Barbara! Karen, Lois, and Barbara Duer entertained us with all things Irish. Great job, girls! * “O'Malley's Song” * “JBOA Polka” * “Danny Boy” * “I'm Looking Over a Four-Leaf Clover” Maggie read much-appreciated thank you cards mailed to the Club by Youth Band members Lazarus Elliot, Asher Elliot, and Anna and Alex Rockwood. The Oklahoma Accordion Club sponsors an auction every Christmas, and the proceeds are given to students to encourage them to go to the NAA in Dallas. Bob Mansfield brought his Titano accordion, a converter bass accordion, and sang along as he played the beautiful: * “Ash Grove” He also performed: * “Cherokee Shuffle” * “Higgins Hornpipe” * “Dansa Farfalla” * “Blue Panther,” a takeoff on the “Pink Panther” Maggie closed the meeting by reminding everyone they should be picking out and playing their August concert pieces for the Club by May. This will help be good practice for playing in front of a group. • Anne Lopez, OAC Secretary March Meeting Anne Lopez Jean Hill, a guest jig at our February meeting, teaches Irish step dancing, and demonstrated an Irish jig.
