Sunday, June 12, 2022
June 12, 2022 The Oklahoma Accordion Club held its sixth meeting of the year on Sunday, June 12, 2022. We met in the music room of the Messiah Lutheran Church. Our usual meeting room was being prepared for Vacation Bible School. aggie Abel called the group to order at 3:30 pm. Fifteen members attended: Thirteen in person and two on Zoom. • Ron Shearon, Club VP and Treasurer, led us in "The Pledge of Allegiance." • Ron had brought his Hohner accordion. He said it is German-made and is as old as he is. Except for the top-of-the-line instruments, Hohners are now made in China. • Ron played "Amazing Grace" three different ways: One finger melody only, melody with chords, and song complete with basses. • Dick Albreski told us that "Amazing Grace" can be played using the black keys only. The black keys are called the slave scale. • Maggie came next, playing "Accordion Caprice" -- a composition by Dick. She said that Dick is a wonderful accordion teacher. • Lois Wyrick and Dick performed two duets: "Country Gardens" and "Accordion Rag." • Barbara Yuill and Dick played "Meditation" and "Il Mio Primo Musette." • Dick soloed with "Under Paris Skies." • Barbara joined him for another duet, "J'Attendrai." • Dick finished with another solo: "Le Gamin de Paris." • Lou Le Brun was with us on Zoom. She performed "The Deiro Rag" and "Clarinet Polka." She told us that she will be moving to a new apartment soon. • Winston Sok was our other Zoom attendee. He played "Viva L'Amour" and "Drink to Me Only with Thine Eyes." • The music continued with Anne Lopez and Lois Roth performing two waltzes: "Romanze" and "Lover Tell Me Why." • The meeting ended with an old-time singalong. Anne and Lois provided the music for "I Want a Girl," "When You Wore a Tulip," and "America the Beautiful." Meeting adjourned. The next meeting will be Sunday, July 10. Come and join in the music and fun!
