September 11, 2022 The Oklahoma Accordion Club held its ninth meeting of the year on Sunday, September 11, 2022. Before the meeting Ron Shearon and Anne Lopez played "Welcome Music." • aggie Abel called the meeting to order at 3:30 pm. • We stood and recited "The Pledge of Allegiance." Anne offered a prayer for all those affected by the NYC bombings on 9/11/01. • Maggie introduced those who were present. Wayne Turgeon joined us on Zoom from his home in England. He said that he will be traveling to Israel in the near future. • The music began with some early Oktoberfest songs played by Anne Lopez and Lois Roth: "The Country Musician," "Liechtensteiner Polka," and "Hofbräuhaus." • Anne said she had recently exchanged emails with Lou LeBrun in Springfield, Missouri. Lou said that the Tulsa accordion group is going to visit her soon and play with her. If anyone wants to contact Lou, they should text her because her phone isn't working. • The music continued with Dick Albreski performing a waltz called "Tulips from Amsterdam." He followed with a lively polka medley: "Liechtensteiner," "Tick Tock," and "Pennsylvania," and finished with "Schneewalzer" ("Snow Waltz"). • This is Dick's busy season. He has several gigs at different breweries, including one in Okarche. The Bohemian Knights will be at the Yukon Festival on October 1. He said he will send us his schedule. • Next on the program was Ron playing "Neapolitan Nights." • Maggie played "Charlie the Chimp" with vocal by Frank Boyd. Maggie said they had rehearsed outside the church for 20 minutes while waiting for the maintenance man to come and unlock the door. • Then it was singalong time. Anne and Lois accompanied the group as they sang "Lili Marlene" and "Edelweiss." Then Dick added his accordion expertise to the fun, and we danced "The Chicken Dance." • While the dancers rested, Anne and Lois played a polka medley: "Just Because" and "Too Fat," and "No Beer," "Das Kufsteiner Lied," and "Erika" ("Tavern Waltz"). • Winston Sok joined the meeting on Zoom. He played "La Vie En Rose" and "That's Amore." • Frank Gesinski (also on Zoom) played "Chicken Dance," "The Hokey Pokey," and "Yours." • Maggie said her slogan is "Make Accordions Great Again!" (MAGA). • The meeting was adjourned. Our Oktoberfest party will be Sunday, October 9, at 3:30 pm. Come early and enjoy the visiting and the "Welcome Music."
