Sunday, November 13, 2022
There were eight members and one guest attending in person.
November 13, 2022 The Oklahoma Accordion Club held a meeting on Sunday, November 13, 2022. We gathered at the usual venue -- Messiah Lutheran Church in OKC. Before convening the meeting, we had an informal Board meeting of all the members who were present. We discussed ideas for enlarging and improving the Club. aggie Abel called the meeting to order at 4:00 pm. • There were no Zoom attendees. The guest was Cassi Radicelli, Anne Lopez's mother, visiting from Cleveland, Ohio. We were all happy to see her again! Maggie told us that Janet Haskin can't be with us because she's at home recovering from a hip fracture. Get well soon, Janet! • Ron Shearon played "We Three Kings of Orient Are" to get us in a holiday mood. • Frank Boyd led us in "The Pledge of Allegiance." • Ron is still working on the complicated job of tuning his Crucianelli accordion. He explained that combining two reeds makes another: e.g., oboe and piccolo together form the clarinet reed. He played "Bavarian Nights Waltz." He said it is an arrangement that Dick Albreski made for the 2015 Fun Band, which Dick directs at the annual National Accordion Convention we attend in Dallas. • Then it was time for a singalong. Players Anne Lopez and Lois Roth accompanied the group as they sang "The Happy Wanderer," "Red River Valley," and "Battle Hymn of The Republic." • Anne and Lois performed three Spanish pieces: "Maria Elena," "La Golondrina," and "La Paloma." "La Golondrina" was played as a duet with harmonizing parts. • They continued with a jam session, playing a variety of songs, including "Sentimental Journey," "Jambalaya," "Just A Closer Walk with Thee," and "Goodnight Irene." • Anne soloed with "Cana Dulce." The duo's finale was "Besame Mucho," sung by Sil Lopez, with Anne accompanying him on accordion. The meeting was adjourned. The Club's Christmas party will be Sunday, December 11 at 3:30 pm. A special email invitation will be sent to all members regarding the party. Guests are most welcome! Join us that afternoon for some Holly Jolly fun and music!
