March 12, 2023 The Oklahoma Accordion Club held its third meeting of the year on Sunday, March 12, 2023, at the usual venue. Before the meeting, Dick Albreski and Laz Elliott entertained with songs that the Fun Band will perform at the 2023 National Accordion Association Convention in Dallas. aggie Abel called the meeting to order at 3:30 pm. · We began with music from the Youth Group. They performed the five pieces that they will play at the convention: "This Is Our Song For You," "Medley of Polish Polkas," "Que Sera, Sera," "Nights of Splendor," and "Lawrence Welk Medley." The players were Laz Elliott, Asher Elliott, Ladan Elliott, Alex Rockwood, and Jonathan Liszeski. · Maggie welcomed everyone to the meeting, and asked guests to introduce themselves. She announced that there is a table full of donated sheet music at the back of the room, and we may take what we want. · D.J. Liszeski, a guest, played two songs on his concertina: "What Do You Do with a Drunken Sailor?" and a lively jig. · Karen West performed "Orange Colored Sky." · Next, we had a singalong. The tunes were: "MacNamara's Band" for St. Patrick's Day, and "Jambalaya" for Mardi Gras. Anne Lopez and Lois Roth provided the music. · Anne and Lois played two more Irish songs: "The Band Played On" and "The Kerry Dance." Anne followed with several solos: "Given's Waltz," "O'Malley's Song," "Tarantella," and a medley from "The Godfather." · Dick put us in a romantic mood by performing "Spanish Eyes," "I Left My Heart in San Francisco," and "Amour, Amour, Amour." He concluded with "Beer Barrel Polka." · Ron Shearon suggested that we put together a "mini concert" for YouTube. He welcomes any ideas or comments from players. The meeting was adjourned. Our next meeting will be Easter Sunday, April 9, at 3:30 pm. Please join us for an afternoon of accordion music.
