May 14, 2023 The Oklahoma Accordion Club held their monthly meeting on Sunday, May 14, 2023, at 3:30 pm. Location was Messiah Lutheran Church in OKC. Sixteen members and six guests attended. It was a triple celebration party: Mother's Day, the annual OAC Pizza Party, and the May 13 wedding of Maggie Abel and Frank Boyd. · The meeting began with Ron Shearon leading us in "The Pledge of Allegiance." · Then Ron made a short speech (a toast to the newlyweds), and we drank to their health and happiness with sparkling grape juice provided by Ron. · Maggie and Frank waltzed to "Let Me Call You Sweetheart," with music provided by Anne Lopez and Lois Roth. · The pizza was delivered, and we all enjoyed three varieties of pizza, with wedding cake for dessert. While we ate, Anne played a medley of Italian songs, including "Tarantella" and "Domani." · Then the music program began. Ron played three songs on his new Hohner 5-reed accordion: "Drink To Me Only With Thine Eyes," "I Don't Know How This Song Ends," and "Nights of Splendor" ("Neapolitan Nights"). · Irene Bookbinder, a guest from Tulsa, played and sang a song in honor of her Mother - "My Yiddish Mama." Irene is a member of the Tulsa Accordion Band. · John Warren played his Cordovox accordion for us. We enjoyed hearing "Too Fat Polka," "Star Dust," "By The Beautiful Sea," and several other selections. · Laz Elliott performed "Galaminnen Waltz" and "Alpine Festival" by Frosini. · Asher Elliott performed "That's Amore" and "Moon River." Laz and Asher are two of our talented Youth members. · Winston Sok played "Country Gardens" and "The William Tell Overture" with bass solo. · Next came a singalong. Anne and Lois provided song sheets and music accompaniment for "I Want A Girl," "M-O-T-H-E-R," and "When You Wore A Tulip." · Anne and Lois performed "Neapolitan Nights," "Marie" and "Ciribiribin" (medley), and "That's Amore." · Dick Albreski stopped by for a short time. He borrowed Ron's Hohner and played "L-O-V-E" and "Beer Barrel Polka." The meeting was adjourned. While the cleanup crew worked, John, Anne, and Lois had a jam session that included "Peg of My Heart," "Home on the Range," "Harbor Lights," and more. The next meeting will be Sunday, June 11, at 3:30 p.m. at Messiah Lutheran Church. Bring yourself, your accordion, and a guest or two, and join in the fun!
